Tony SmithTony Smith broke the silence surrounding the Nova Scotia Home for Coloured Children, an orphanage where neglect, and abuse of children ran unchecked for decades. Other former residents started to come forward, and Smith rallied them together. After years of struggle for justice, a class-action lawsuit against the province of Nova Scotia was finally settled, and in 2014 Smith together with other former residents of the home received a formal apology from Premier Stephen McNeil.
